Blacksburg, Va., January 16, 2024 –The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests’ Eastern Divide Ranger District has temporarily closed the gate to the lower parking lot at Pandapas Pond, a popular recreation feature in Montgomery County, due to icy roads hazardous to the public. Vehicular access to the lower parking lot Pandapas Pond is currently prohibited. Ranger Beth Christensen stated, “I’ve been working in collaboration with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office. They have seen a number of overturned vehicles on Forest Road 808 leading to Pandapas. We agree it is not safe for the public to try and recreate in these winter travel conditions. With colder temperatures predicted, this is a necessary precaution.” Restrictions will be lifted and Pandapas reopened once icy conditions improve. For questions, please call the Eastern Divide Ranger District at 540-552-4641For further information, see the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests’ website and Facebook page.
